Hawk Display Supported Charities

RAF & MDS Race Logo
In 2009, the RAF Hawk Display is raising money to primarily support the two charities, Combat Stress and The Ynys Mon Young Carers initiative.

If you wish to donate any money towards these worthy causes, please send a cheque made payable to 'Service Funds RAF Valley' to the address found on the contact page.

Combat Stress

The Ex-Services Mental Welfare Society, Combat Stress, exists to serve men and women of the Armed Forces. For over 80 years, Combat Stress has been the only services charity specialising in helping those of all ranks from the Armed Forces and the Merchant Navy suffering from psychological disability as a result of their service.

Ynys Mon Young Carers

A young carer is a child / young person under 18 years old who helps look after someone at home who is not able to manage without their help because they are ill, have some kind of disability, feel depressed or may have a drugs / drink problem.

The Social Services Department operates a Young Carers Project on Ynys Mon (Anglesey) with the National Children’s Home (NCH).

Help For Heroes

In April 2009, five serving RAF Personnel will be competing in the infamous Marathon des Sables. Along with several hundred fellow athletes they will cross 151 miles of the Sahara desert over the course of one week, which is equivalent to 5 and a half marathons. Not only that, they will carry all of thier own equipment, food and water, whilst navigating thier way across the sand dunes and wadis in 45 degrees of heat!

One of the team members is a Qualified Flying Instructor based at RAF Valley, the home of the RAF Hawk Display. Flt Lt Simon Ramsden has been training for over a year for this extremely challenging event and is raising money for Help for Heroes. Please visit his online sponsorship page to offer your support.

RAF Benevolent Fund

The RAFBF exists to provide financial and practical assistance to anyone who is serving or has ever served in the RAF, and their partners and dependants too. It provides individual grants to help with care, housing and mobility, as well as funding specialist services for members of the RAF family. In line with its new expanded mission to support the well-being and morale of the RAF, the RAFBF is currently funding new services designed to relieve pressure on serving personnel, such as childcare centres on stations, debt advice services and relationship counselling.
